TMA debunks selling land to Korean Investors
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly has debunked reports in the section of the media that a parcel of land adjoining the Golden Age Youth Centre at Community 4 in Tema has been sold to a Korean Investor.
According to a release signed by the Public Relations Officer [ P.R.O] of the Assembly, Frank Asante, “the claim is false and must be disregarded by the good people of Tema, especially the youth and residents of Community 4 and 7 respectively.”
Mr. Asante explained further that the Youth Centre was a project initiated in 2004 by Ishmael Ashitey, then MP for Tema East, and current Greater Accra Regional Minister.
“The rationale for constructing the facility was to provide ICT Training and artisanal skills to the youth of Tema to make them self-employed,” he explained.
He continued that upon assumption of office as Mayor in May 2016, Felix Mensah Nii Anang, unveiled the Tema Restoration Agenda, and added that high on the agenda of the Mayor was the pressing need to salvage all deteriorated educational infrastructure as well as protect all public lands adjoining the youth centre.
The PRO stressed that in fulfillment of the Restoration Agenda to protect school lands, a sod cutting ceremony was held on January 25, 2018.
“A publication on the fencing project was carried in the Ghanaian Times Newspaper dated Tuesday, November 7, 2017,” he said explaining that tender and procurement processes were duly followed before the contractor went to site.
To this end, he clarified that the Assembly “has no dealings with any Korean Investor as it is being peddled in sections of the public with the resultant misconception it may have caused in the minds of the residents.”
He added that the TMA was well focused and interested in improving the welfare of the youth and would not deprive the people of Tema access to the Golden Age Youth Centre.
