Following the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s claim that President Akufo-Addo has won the 2020 presidential election with some 52% the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released its own provisional results.

The NDC’s result shows President Mahama has won the presidential election with 50.15% of the votes cast as against 47.75% secured by president Akuffo-Addo.

In terms of numbers, the NEC’s collation gave President Mahama 6,166,385 votes. President Akuffo-Addo, per the NDC’s collated figures, secured 5,871,144 votes.

Deputy General Secretary Of the NDC, Mr. Peter Boamah Otukonor, told journalists the figures assures President Mahama a one touch victory.

He called on President Akufo-Addo to do the needful and concede defeat.

Mr Otukonor points out that President Mahama’s victory is supported by very important statistics around the election.

He points out that the NDC has for instance won ten out of the sixteen regions, the NDC has won all the swing regions of the country and also won majority in Parliament.

He points out that all of these statistics support the fact that the NDC has won the elections.

NDC has won 139 out of the 275 parliamentary seats securing it a simple majority in the Legislature. The NPP has won 132 with two other constituencies won by independent candidates.

One of the seats, Techiman South, is under contention after the electoral commission called it for the NPP after it initially had been called for the NDC.

The NDC describes the change as problematic because the government had used armed soldiers to force the EC official to recount the ballots. It took a total five recounts before the NPP would win the seat.

At least two people were shot dead over the recount. The NDC has vowed to pursue the case on court.

According to Mr. Otukonor the government has similarly sent soldiers and police officers to Tarkwa Nsuayem and other places where the NDC has won seats to force recounts.

The NDC has warned it will resist any attempt to steal the vote.

Meanwhile, per NDC’s collation, the other remaining parties together secured 0.52% of total votes cast – 63,687 votes.

194,736 votes constituting 1.58% of total ballots cast.
