We’ll publish parallel findings on GCMC saga – Minority
The Minority caucus in parliament has served notice that it will soon make public its own findings into allegations against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company(GCMC), Frances Essiam.
The Ministry of Energy set up a three-member committee to investigate the tussle involving the CEO and the Board.
This follows the Board’s query to Madam Essiam over allegations of mismanagement and breach of procurement laws.
The Energy Ministry subsequently overturned the suspension of the embattled CEO of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited Frances Essiam following its intervention into the impasse, saying:“It is the considered view of the Ministry that due to the nature of the impasse and the fact that the Board is an interested party in the matter an independent committee will produce a more objective result.”
Consequently, the Ministry in consultation with the SEC, set up a three (3) member committee made up of a Senior Lawyer and Governance Expert, a Chartered Accountant and banker, and a Petroleum expert at the Ministry to look into the allegations.
But the Minority Spokesperson on Mines and Energy, Adams Mutawakilu has indicated they’ve decided to come out with their own findings on the basis of informing Ghanaians on the undercurrent issues the entity is face with.
“We know since this Minister took over, all corruption issues, he’s always set up committees and they don’t come up with any report. How does the Minister believe that this committee will bring up report? because we know why! Most of these transaction happened when the board was not in place, and the minister was supervising the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company. We’re carrying out our own investigation, gathering our data, appropriate time, we’ll let you people know. If the committee comes out with the report in two weeks and its contrary to what we have we’ll come out with ours, so Ghanaians can do comaprisms,” he said in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
