On February 18, President John Mahama inaugurated the National Education Consultative Forum at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, urging participants to contribute to essential educational reforms that will enable Ghanaian children to compete globally.

In his address, President Mahama emphasized the need for an education system aligned with the country’s development goals, addressing the current and future needs of the youth. He highlighted the importance of a holistic educational approach that can meet the developmental requirements of local communities.

Reflecting on his pre-election commitment, the President stated, “I indicated my desire to convene a national dialogue on the best approach to giving Ghanaian children a shot at a better life through quality and relevant education.” He expressed satisfaction that this vision has materialized, declaring the forum officially open with a strong sense of purpose.

“This moment marks a significant step in fulfilling one of the commitments of our 120-day social contract with the people of Ghana, aimed at building consensus on the urgent reforms needed to reset our education sector,” he added.

The three-day forum, themed “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” brings together stakeholders including teacher unions, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, traditional authorities, and students to discuss effective strategies for overcoming challenges in quality education delivery and finding lasting solutions to existing problems.
