The former Executive Director of National Service Scheme (NSS), Dr. Kpessa-Whyte has taken swipe at the President Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and stressed the President was in a hurry to be Voted Out come 2020 elections.

Dr. Kpessa-Whyte also condemned the manner in which the President demean Ghanaians during his appearance on state television to speak on Ghana-US Military Cooperation Agreement.

He said Nana Akufo-Addo’s speech on April 5, 2018 on his government’s decision to sign the controversial military agreement with the US government was nothing to write home about.

According to him, Nana Addo was not conversant with the content of the agreement he intended to commit Ghanaians into, yet, he addressed the nation on it.

He said “it appears to me the president did not read the agreement that has generated the public outcry, and so he left me to conclude that so far he has been relying on his advisors and appointees, who in my view, are taking advantage of his lack of attention to detail.

“It is thus fair to say, Nana Addo is yet to read the controversial Ghana-US military agreement that subordinates the entire sovereign will of Ghana to the US military because his claims to higher patriotism as espoused in his nation address are at odd with provisions of the agreement”, he opined.

Following Nana Addo’s failure to note the content of the agreement, Dr. Kpessa-Whyte posited that the president lost a wonderful opportunity to pick the various clauses in the agreement that generated public outcry, to assuage the fears and concerns of the citizenry.

Adding, he said the president rather appeared “very angry, condescending and arrogant in his choice of words, posturing and delivery, and in a style very unusual of the presidency, where he elected to directly insult and verbally abuse all Ghanaians who were opposed to the address”.

The president’s innuendos and insinuations directed at those opposed to his decision on the military agreement suggests he does not believe in citizens being citizens as he professed in his inaugural address, the statement added.

Former NSS Boss further noticed President Akufo-Addo was not honest and a principled person because then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo criticized the Gitmo 2 decision of former President John Dramani Mahama, but today, as President was now claiming foreign policy, is an area that has always been concealed from partisan discussions and should remain so.

The statement bemoaned Nana Addo’s demonstration of lack of democratic temperament and displayed a high level of intolerance in seeing nothing of merit in the arguments advanced by those who are against specific provisions of the said agreement with the USA.

The Former NSS Boss reiterated President Akufo-Addo made him believe he (Nana Addo) actually did not read the controversial Ghana-US Military agreement because Nana Addo would have also concluded that portions of that document outsourced Ghana’s sovereign responsibilities to the US, and threw outs the powers of the country’s courts.

Dr. Kpessa-Whyte hinted Nana Addo did not say anything different from what Ghanaians have heard time and again from his (Nana Addo’s) appointees and party apparatchiks who were all over and still defending the agreement thereby rendering his address unpresidential and hollow.

Nana Addo thinks electoral legitimacy is a license to do anything irrespective of what the electorates think, forgotten that in between elections, public opinion is the grease that lubricates that legitimacy, NSS Boss opined.
