Host of “Light upon Light” , Sheikh Muhammed Bagaya, has added a piece to the issue of ‘showcasing’ prophet Muhammad’s portrait in France.

Speaking on the issue, he said, “violence has no place in Islam” thereby condemning the act of the teenager who beheaded a French teacher, Patty, for using the portrait of prophet Muhammad during lectures.

Sheikh further said, “Those who execute violence are Muslim minority who may not have proper understanding of Islam.” If you practice a religion that preached love and compassion as its essence at the core of its existence, then what is your relationship with violence?” he quizzed.

In the light of the world, there are extremists who use or pick up portions of the Quran and Bible that addresses violence, interpret them out of context to suit their own desires. These actions lead to extremism.

He again added that there are two types of people; Those who see themselves as agents of the divine anger who cause distraction and those that see themselves are agents of divine mercy who do anything to promote peace, love and compassion.

Between these two, the divine mercy lies with God. He alone can punish or reward deeds.

“How do you claim you love God and worship, a God you have never seen before in your life yet hit a man with who you live everyday?” He stressed.

About 12 people were attacked and murdered in France after satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in 2015.

Earlier in October 2020, a French teacher known as Samuel Patty, showed cartoons of prophet Muhammad in class and he was beheaded for that.

France president, Emmanuel Macron, in reaction to the unfortunate incident, said they weren’t going to stop drawing. “We will not give up our cartoons” he said!

In response, Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said president Macron needed a mental check up for “pledging to defend secular values and fight radical Islam.”

Some Arabs in the gulf have, as a result, staged boycotts of French products.
