Kwahu South District Assembly Fails To Elect Presiding Member For The Fourth Time

Assembly members’ in the Kwahu South District Assembly of the Eastern Region, have for the fourth time failed to elect a presiding member to steer the day to day activities of the assembly.

From December last  year to  Thursday 10th May 2018,members of the assembly have held four different  elections all in an attempt to get a new presiding member to oversee the activities of  the assembly but again no victor could emerge out of the two rounds of elections held .

The contest which was keen between two candidates, incumbent Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Frank Samuel Ofosu Kissi and a government appointee, Hon. Benjamin Boateng, lasted for two rounds with a total valid vote cast of 36 with both candidates recording a 15-21 results for both rounds. The result implies that the incumbent PM, Mr. Frank Samuel Ofosu Kissi remains the presiding member until a new election is held.

District Chief Executive for the Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr. in a speech after the election urged the assembly members not to let the electoral results divide them but rather encourage them to deepen their democratic credentials as an assembly.

He also pleaded with assembly members to make information available for the smooth running of the assembly.
Hon. Atta Ofori SNR also remarked that, the assembly has decided to cede some of their revenue sources to private service providers of whom one of them has made three different presentations to the management and has assured the assembly of helping to increase revenue when they are contracted.

Hon. Atta Ofori also accounted for the auction of four vehicles including three pick-ups and a refuse truck which fetched a total amount of eighty-two thousand and two hundred cedis on 12th of April, 2018.According to him, 7%of the amount was paid to the auctioneer whiles the remaining 76,446 cedis has been deposited into the assembly’s account. However, a new date will be scheduled for another election.
