The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, has tasked the newly inaugurated Korle-Klottey Municipal Assembly to strive on its own to mobilize for resources for the development of the area.

Mr. Marfo, who was speaking during the inauguration of the Korle-Klottey Municipal Assembly in Accra, said the Municipality is situated within a rich catchment area; therefore it must not be allowed to sit idle while the Assembly waits for their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund before working.

He encouraged the new Assembly to set a target raising a minimum of One Hundred Million Dollars in property rates; saying there are enough properties in the Municipality to realize the amount.

The Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, said the Municipality would now be able to focus on the real challenges facing it, now that it has been de-coupled from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

She called on the Assembly to work in peace, unity and understanding to achieve success.

Zanetor Rawlings also advised the Assembly Members to lead exemplary lives for others to emulate.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, who graced the occasion commended residents and Assembly members for putting Party affiliation aside to form a united front for the fight towards attaining a new Municipality.

The Osu Maŋtsɛ, Nii Kinka Dowouna, thanked all who contributed in diverse ways to ensure the attainment of the Municipality status.

He said the realization of a Municipality rather heralds the beginning of work to be done and not work done; and therefore encouraged all to get involved and support the new Assembly to succeed.

Nii Kinka Dowouna urged residents in the Korle-Klottey Municipality to help achieve its vision to ensure total socio-economic development of the Municipality.

The inauguration was done on behalf of the President by government functionaries including Ministers of State.

It was attended by chiefs, the clergy, departmental heads and families of the Assembly Members.
