Headmistress Laments Over Poor School Infrastructure

Headmistress of Nkawkaw Nsuta M/A ‘B’ basic school and winners of the maiden Eastern Regional Basic Schools Maths and Science quiz competition in the Kwahu West Municipality, Mrs. Paulina Darko has lamented over poor infrastructure of the school.

Despite the challenges, her teaching staff and students paid enough sacrifices to be able to win the ultimate trophy as the winners of the region’s maiden Maths and Science competition.

She also added that, her team enjoyed significant support from chiefs and assembly member of the Nkawkaw Nsuta Electoral area, Hon.Nana Onwona Isaac Kofi resulting in their ability to bring success to Nkawkaw at large.

“Even though we have won the maiden trophy as champions of Eastern Region, our school have several challenges such as the lack of a teacher’s common room, therefore rendering teachers to sit under trees in both rains and sunshine”, She said.

The headmistress made the remarks when she led teachers and students to present the championship trophy to the assembly member and chiefs of Nkawkaw Nsuta, where the school is located.

Mrs. Paulina Darko further revealed that the unavailability of an ICT department, library, wash and changing rooms and inability to complete a KG block is having a negative impact on teaching and learning in the school.

“We are hereby appealing to the authorities to come to our aid and provide the above mentioned facilities to augment quality education in the school”, She added.

On his part, the assembly member for Nkawkaw Nsuta and Benkumhene of Abenase Mampong, Hon. Nana Onwona Isaac Kofi, congratulated the teachers and contestants for their efforts in bringing victory to the community and Municipality as a whole and admonishes them to go even higher on their academic ladder.

Nana Yaw OSEI, the Odikro of Nsuta Abenase Mampong also commended both the teaching staff and students for the efforts and charged them not to make the achievement a nine day wonder but rather work harder towards the national victory.

Master Kabiru Abdul, the lead contestant for the school also recounted how they were adequately prepared by their teachers to sail through from the circuit level to the regional level of the completion till their victory.

He further appealed to the authorities to come to the aid of the school and provide the necessary infrastructure.

The assembly member for the Nkawkaw NSUTA electoral area and Benkumhene of Abenase Mampong, Hon. Nana Onwona Isaak Kofi also expressed sincere gratitude to the contestants and their teachers for making the community and Municipality proud and admonishes them to even go higher in all efforts on their academic ladder.
