Bishop Kisseih Urges President Mahama to Sign Controversial LGBTQ+ Bill

Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Gordon Kisseih, the 1st Vice President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) and General Overseer of Life International Church, has called on the newly elected President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to expedite the signing of the recently passed Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. The legislation seeks to classify identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+) as illegal, imposing a prison sentence of up to three years for those found guilty.
Bishop Kisseih made this urgent appeal during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Pentecostal and Charismatic Council Heads of Churches and Organizations Conference held at the Pentecost Convention Centre on February 5. He emphasized that the bill is central to the ethics and morality of Ghanaian society, significantly impacting family structures within the country.
“As the first vice of GPCC, I am calling on the president to sign the law as soon as possible,” Bishop Kisseih stated in an interview with reporters during the convention. He highlighted that the bill underwent a thorough process, incorporating perspectives from civil society, religious groups, and traditional organizations, ensuring that diverse voices were heard.

“I am satisfied with the outcome,” he asserted, adding that “due diligence was done.” Bishop Kisseih reiterated the importance of the bill in protecting Ghanaians, urging President Mahama to act swiftly in formalizing the legislation.
The conference, themed ‘Walk the Calling,’ is designed to address pressing national issues and foster dialogue among church leaders and organizations.
