Awoshie, Pokuase Residents Threatened Demo Over Non Payment of Compensation

Residents within Awoshie Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region who have lost their properties during the construction of the 15 kilometers high way have threatened to hit the street if the monies are not paid to them by the government.

The residents after several years and numerous attempts to get the authorities pay their compensation failed, have now given government two weeks ultimatum to respond to their calls.

The John Atta Mills regime in 2010 demolished houses to pave way for the construction of 15 kilometers Awoshie – Pokuase highway.

The affected residents were promised to be compensated and are yet to receive their money.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday to press home their demand, the Concern Residents Association of Awoshie – Pokuase have expressed their dissapointment at the government for failing to honor its promises.

According to the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Peter Kofi Adu, about 35 members have lost their lives due to the pain and agony of being homeless.

He said the residents after two weeks of the ultimatum, would advise themselves by taken serious action that will compel the authorities to respond immediately.

“In our efforts as the Concerned Residents Association of Awoshie – Pokuase to get our compensation paid by the government, we petitioned the lands Commission and the Roads and Highways Ministry but fell on deaf ears”, he stated.
