The Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF) has appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm and circumspect amid rising tension over the ongoing national debate on public education and religious practices at Wesley Girls’ Senior High School.
In a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Halidu Haruna, the Fund expressed deep concern about the escalating arguments surrounding the issue, noting that recent public discussions have heightened tensions among various stakeholders.
The ZoDF emphasised the need for all parties to respect the constitutional mandate of the Supreme Court, which is currently adjudicating the matter and urged the public to await the Court’s final judgement with maximum restraint.
Describing Ghana as an “oasis of peaceful co-existence, interfaith harmony and tolerance,” the statement highlighted the country’s longstanding tradition of religious freedom and mutual respect. It further reiterated that the constitution guarantees every citizen the right to practice their faith without coercion or hindrance.
Quoting the Holy Quran, the Fund underscored that “there is no compulsion in religion,” stressing that Islam firmly upholds freedom of worship and rejects any form of force in religious practice.
As a key stakeholder in the education and development of marginalised communities, the ZoDF called on Ghanaians of all faiths to uphold peace and unity while the Supreme Court deliberates on this sensitive national issue.
The Fund assured the public of its continued commitment to fostering harmony and protecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of religious background.
