On the eve of International Women’s Day, twelve districts from Ghana Water Limited convened in Darkuman to celebrate the significant positive changes women are making in society. This year’s global theme, Accelerate Action, resonates deeply with the organization’s commitment to empowering women and girls.

In the Accra West region of the water sector, the theme has been localized to “Accelerating Action through Empowerment.”” Regional Chief Manager Emmanuel Johnson highlighted that women now comprise 50% of the management team, with five out of nine members being female. He urged women to prioritize personal development over mere representation.

Regional Communication Manager Solace Akomeah emphasized the long and challenging path to women’s equality, acknowledging both achievements and ongoing challenges. “Let’s embrace equality and build a better world for women everywhere,” she stated, sharing insights into how personal development contributes to community equality, recovery, and growth.

Guest of Honour Serena Kwakye-Mintah, General Manager of Ghana Water Bottling Plant, encouraged women to actively participate in all areas of life without discrimination. She called for unity among women to build a future where they could realize their potential comfortably and confidently. Her message is anticipated to inspire dialogue and action toward a more inclusive society for women.

The event aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 5: Gender Equality, reinforcing the commitment to promote gender equity and advance women’s rights and opportunities.

As we look toward International Women’s Day 2025, the campaign theme underscores the importance of inspiring others to value women’s inclusion, thereby forging a better world where every woman feels a sense of belonging and empowerment.
