During the 10th Ghana Excellence Women Awards held on March 7, 2025, at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Vice President Prof. Opoku Agyemang addressed the ongoing issue of gender inequality in leadership positions and education access for women in Ghana.

In her speech, the Vice President emphasized that women remain significantly under-represented in leadership roles, citing widespread gender discrimination and limited financial resources as major contributing factors. She noted that these challenges have hindered women’s ability to compete with their male counterparts and achieve their full potential.

“Women in our country are often left behind due to deeply rooted societal norms, cultural beliefs, and systemic exclusion,” she stated. Prof. Agyemang commended the award recipients for their exceptional contributions and encouraged them to continue inspiring others and breaking barriers in their fields.

To the women who “wake up every day to fight for their dreams,” she expressed gratitude, saying, “We see you, we celebrate you, and we stand with you.”

The Vice President used this milestone event to honor hardworking women who are making a significant impact in their communities. She expressed hope that this year’s anniversary of the Excellence Women Awards would motivate governments, lawmakers, NGOs, and individuals to take decisive action in all areas affecting women’s lives.

As Ghana continues to strive for gender equality, Prof. Agyemang’s remarks serve as a reminder of the vital role that women play in society and the importance of supporting their aspirations and rights.
