TMA donates to Tema Traditional Council towards Kpelejoo festival

Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema Metropolitan Assembly has donated some items to the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) on behalf of Assembly towards the celebration of this year’s Kpelejoo festival.

The items included cartons of bottled water, crates of soft drinks and beer, cartons of schnapps and an undisclosed amount of money.

The Assembly also made a special donation to Kpele Groups and the all-female Osheboloi groups as part of efforts to promote peace.

Presenting the items, the Mr. Anang-La said the TMA was grateful for the continuous support and collaboration that exists between the TTC and the Assembly.

He admonished the people of Tema to celebrate the festival in a peaceful atmosphere and that “the assembly will not condone any act that would create chaos and misunderstanding to undermine the existing peace in the metropolis”.

Mr. Anang-La said the security officials in the metropolis will not hesitate to deal with any group of persons or individuals who want to foment trouble.

He commended the TTC for preserving the cultural practices of Tema, adding, “It is my expectation that this year’s Kpelejoo festival will go down in history as one of the best from the enthusiasm demonstrated by the youth at this presentation ceremony.”

Nii Adjei Kraku II, the Tema Mantse, lauded the efforts of the Assembly in supporting the Council and also thanked President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the creation of the Tema West Municipal Assembly.

He said the move to create the new assembly will strengthen grassroots participation in local governance.

Nii Kraku II   bemoaned the attitude of some indigenes that do not participate in the festival and view it as idol worship saying, “the Kpele is not evil but traditional.”

He prayed for God’s blessings and guidance for the stewardship of the President, the Mayor and the country at large.
