Mr. Alex Segbefia, Board Chairman of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage (JEAMMH), has described the late President John Evans Atta Mills as a “Godsend” whose legacy continues to inspire a better Ghana.

Speaking at the 13th commemorative lecture held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on July 22, 2025, Mr. Segbefia praised the late president for his integrity, humility and unwavering commitment to peace, education and national unity.

“President Mills was forthright, calm, incorruptible, and a man of peace – a father for all,” Segbefia noted. “His significance lies not just in what he did, but how history continues to view him.”

The JEAMMH, established in 2021 and granted NGO status, has since embarked on various legacy-preserving activities, including the publication of Atta Mills Speaks to the World, The Great Launch and Atta Mills Around The Regions. The Heritage also supports academic excellence through annual awards at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

Segbefia, who also serves as Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, leads a dedicated Board that includes Hon. Sammy Atta Mills, Mr. Siisi Quainoo, and Nana Oye Bampoe-Addo. The Advisory Council is chaired by Togbe Afede XIV, with other distinguished members such as Dr. Cadman Mills, Mr. Kwame Pianim and Dr. Esther Ofei Aboagye.

As part of the 13th anniversary celebrations, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at Asomdwee Park on July 24 – the date of President Mills’ passing. The commemoration will climax with the President John Evans Atta Mills Hockey Tournament on July 26 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

Special acknowledgments were extended to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Speaker Alban Bagbin for their unwavering support.

“This is not just remembrance – it’s a renewal of our commitment to the values Mills stood for,” Segbefia affirmed.
