Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has taken decisive action to optimize the efficiency of his ministry, which boasts a workforce of over 3,000 employees across its agencies.

The Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament expressed dismay over the recruitment of 600 staff members after December 7, 2024, prompting him to initiate a comprehensive staff rationalization.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March 25, Minister George revealed that he had directed the termination of nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post, stating, “I’ve directed the dismissal of 100 Ghana Post staff.” This bold move is part of his broader effort to streamline the ministry’s operations and enhance its overall performance.

Sam George’s concerns are rooted in the fact that the post-December 7 recruitments were not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles. The Chief of Staff had previously instructed all heads of government institutions to revoke such appointments and recruitments, citing the need to ensure accountability in the management of public funds.

Mr. George’s decisive action has been backed by the Majority Caucus in Parliament, who endorsed the Chief of Staff’s directive to withdraw all post-December 7 recruitments. The move is seen as necessary to manage the country’s fiscal challenges and prevent undue financial strain on the new government.
