Sack Disrespectful Fisheries Minister– COPAM
Coalition of Progressive Assembly Members (COPAM) has called for the immediate removal from office of the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture development, Hon. Afoley Quaye.
In a statement issued on Thursday by all the ten regional conveners of COPAM, urged all assembly members to stand firm and discharge their duties without fear or favour.
According to the statement, the arrest of assembly members in Rambo style on the order of Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor who doubles as Minister for Fisheries mainly to disenfranchise them from casting their vote in the confirmation of President Nominee Mr. Joshua Bortey for the position of chief executive must be condemn in no certain terms.
Three assembly members of the newly created Krowor municipal assembly namely Hon. Alfred Ahisah Laryea, Hon. Lawrence Borquaye, and Hon. Robert Odiko were arrested by the police for apparently no reason. The three were later charged for unlawful demolition of signboards.
The group has hinted on seeking redress for its members at the court, and also calling on parliamentary select committee on local government and rural development to investigate the conduct of the Minister.
“COPAM in coming days will petition the Parliamentary select committee on local government and rural development on the alleged conduct of Hon. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, whilst we also consider seeking redress for the affected assembly members at the court”, the statement said.
The statement contained that “we will resist any attempt by the likes of Hon. Afoley Quaye who have no respect for the local governance and the mandate bestowed on assembly members by the good people of Ghana”.
COPAM has also observed that the use of crude methods to cow assembly members into submission and to also prevent them from carrying out their mandate was regrettable.
The group called on the president to sack the Minister from office for misusing misconducting herself.
