Residents blame Boniface for demolition at Madina
Residents of a slum near the Redco flats at Madina in Accra are blaming their Member of Parliament, Boniface Abubakar Sadique for a demolition exercise which has displaced several squatters.
Hundreds of residents have been rendered homeless, following a demolition exercise carried out by some police officers in the area.
Residents say the Inner City and Zongo Development Minister promised them a place to live permanently during the campaign period but has so far done nothing about their plight.
In an interview with Citi News, the affected squatters criticized the approach used in the demolition exercise.
“Boniface came around in the election season and promised not to evict us but he has tasked some police officers to evict us. This is unfair,” a squatter complained.
“They have destroyed our structures and we do not have a place to lay our heads. The Minister promised to put up structures for these squatters but he failed to fulfill this promise and has rendered these squatters homeless,” another said.
Another appealed for support, saying “we are asking Ghanaians to come to our aid. Most of us do not have a place to lay our heads.”
A team of police officers led the demolition exercise in that area this morning following Citi News’ report about criminal activities around the Redco flats.
