Rawlings not disloyal to NDC – Amissah Arthur
Former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has discounted claims that former President Jerry John Rawlings has deserted his party, the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) and rather frolicking with the governing New Patriotic Party.
The ex-military leader and Founder of the NDC has come under intense critique for being publicly critical of the NDC.
Many within the opposition NDC say Mr. Rawlings has betrayed the confidence of his party, while they question the loyalty of the former leader following what has often been described as Rawlings’ incessant public attacks on the NDC.
But Former Vice President in the past NDC administration, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur said Mr Rawlings is still very loyal to the party-NDC.
“He’s a non-conformist; he believes in such things that he’ll talk his mind whether you like it or not. So you always know where he stands on an issue. He’s not going to be prevaricating and deciding to say it or not, No he’ll say it and let the chips fall where they may. We in the NDC we appreciate it so much and we don’t think he’s being disloyal,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo lately waded into the internal politics of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) saying ex-military leader and Founder of the NDC party, Jerry John Rawlings is no longer recognised by members of the party.
He made the comment while he acknowledged the presence of the former leader and his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as members jeered at him during his second State of the Nation Address last month.
“Mr Speaker that is the way of the world, the founder of the party is today no longer recognised by the members of his party.” Mr Akufo-Addo said on Thursday, February,08, 2018.
