Prez Mahama and VP Prof. Opoku-Agyemang Lead Emotional Condolence Visit to Families of Fallen Service Heroes
President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led a high-level delegation to pay their respects to the families of the military personnel who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The ill-fated helicopter, which was carrying government officials and military personnel, crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of everyone on board.
During the condolence visit, President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang met with the bereaved families, offering heartfelt condolences and words of comfort.
The Vice President described the deceased as dedicated sons of the land who served their country with honor and commitment. She urged the public and media to accord the families the privacy and space they need to grieve and heal in peace.
A state funeral was scheduled to take place to honor the fallen heroes.
The country observed three days of mourning, concluding with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” event at the State House forecourt in Accra.
The government directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country in honor of the deceased until further notice.
The deceased included prominent government officials and military personnel, such as Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and three crew members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang paid tribute to the victims, highlighting their dedication and service to Ghana.
