President John Dramani Mahama has taken a pivotal step in fulfilling his commitment to engage Ghanaians in shaping the future of the education sector.

He has appointed an eight-member committee, led by Professor George K.T. Oduro, the former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, to organize the National Education Forum.

The committee has a two-week deadline to submit its report and plan for the event.

The committee features a diverse group of esteemed individuals, including Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, and Professor Smile Dzisi, alongside Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.

Their primary task is to develop a theme and sub-themes that will guide discussions at the forum and identify key stakeholders in the education sector, such as students, parents, teachers, private sector representatives, researchers, and civil society organizations.

In addition to planning the forum, the committee is responsible for proposing a venue and date for the event, establishing a secretariat to document activities, preparing a budget, and creating a stakeholder activity agenda with time allocations.

Moreover, they are tasked with compiling a comprehensive report that outlines the findings and recommendations from the forum, as well as drafting a national education policy framework with an actionable implementation plan to be completed within three weeks post-forum.

The National Education Forum aims to serve as a platform for inclusive dialogue, gathering various voices to discuss critical challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s education system. With the committee’s efforts, the groundwork will be laid for a robust and forward-thinking education policy designed to enhance learning outcomes and shape the future of education in Ghana.
