Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed, 6 Others Confirmed Dead in Military Helicopter Crash
A tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of several high-profile government officials, including Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, after the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter they were travelling in went off radar en route to Obuasi.

Also confirmed dead are Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The three crew members aboard the aircraft—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—also perished in the crash, bringing the death toll to eight.
Emergency response teams swiftly deployed to the tragic site.
