President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to settle the outstanding allowances of nursing trainees, inclusive of arrears, effective January 2025.

This assurance was made during a thank-you tour at the College of Health in Kintampo, Bono East Region, on May 29, 2025.

According to Mahama, the Minister of Finance has allocated sufficient funds in the budget to facilitate the payment of these allowances.

“Let me assure you that the minister has made adequate provision in the budget for the payment of allowances, and the allowances will be paid from January. So, you will get the arrears,” he stated.

Mahama explained that the delay in disbursement was attributed to the implementation of a novel payment system aimed at ensuring consistency and transparency.

“What has delayed is that the minister is putting in a system so that you will be paid through the Comptroller and Accountant General, so that every month when workers receive their salaries, trainees will also receive their allowances,” he added.

This announcement was met with jubilation and relief from students and faculty, who welcomed the renewed commitment to addressing their financial challenges.

He added that, by streamlining the payment process, the government aims to provide timely disbursement of allowances, thereby eliminating previous delays.
