The Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana (CNMAG) has issued a blistering press release condemning recent remarks made by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, targeting the Minister of Health.
In a strongly worded statement dated 21 August 2025, the CNMAG urged Dr. Tenkorang-Twum to exercise “greater discretion, professionalism and respect in his choice of words,” particularly in high-level discourse. The statement argued that his language was “highly unacceptable and unbecoming of a leader of his stature.”
According to the press release, the association cited the need for “maturity, diplomacy, and the ability to express dissent without resorting to personal attacks or derogatory remarks.” They expressed disappointment that the GRNMA General Secretary “fell short of these standards.” The CNMAG urged all leaders in the nursing profession to uphold the highest standards of decorum and professional conduct in public discourse.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the CNMAG – led by President Abena Serwaa Akoto and Secretary Francis Asaba – called for Dr. Tenkorang-Twum to reflect on and demonstrate better judgment in future engagements. Their hope is to preserve the image and collective voice of nurses and midwives across Ghana, ensuring the profession continues to be treated with the respect it deserves.
The press release notably did not mince words in denouncing the “derogatory statements” reportedly made by Dr. Tenkorang-Twum, stressing that such language undermines both leadership credibility and the values of the nursing profession.
With emotions running high, the CNMAG’s statement serves as both a rebuke and a call to higher standards – reaffirming the importance of respectful leadership, even when navigating disagreement with policy or government action.
