NPP Vetting Turns Bloody…
Bawumia Boy Not Allow to Pick Nomination Form
The ruling New Patriotic Party NPP in the Ashanti Region is on fire as supporters of both candidates engage in exchange of blows.
The pandemonium that rocked the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) vetting of parliamentary candidates in the Ashanti region, had left one person seriously injured.
Information from the TUC Hasta Hotel near Santasi in Kumasi says Police have to be called in to separate supporters of Alidu Seidu and Mr Manaf Ibrahim who had engaged in a free for all fight.
We have gathered that supporters of Alidu Seidu, who is the Municipal Chief Executive for Asawase, did not take it kindly with Manaf Ibrahim being invited to appear before the vetting committee as there was a communication that the MCE be allowed to go unopposed.
Initially, Manaf Ibrahim, who works in the office of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was prevented from picking nomination forms from the party’s office in the Ashanti region. He had to travel to Accra to buy his nomination forms from the party’s headquarters.
While it was uncertain Manaf Ibrahim will partake in today’s vetting process, there was a call from the national headquarters of the party which directed a while ago that he be allowed to attend the vetting, this portal gathered.
“His presence and his followers at the vetting venue caused the confusion. Alidu Seidu supporters clashed with them,” an eye witness recounted.
The vetting committee led by the Ashanti regional Chairman, F.F Anto and Chairman Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi is said to have quickly called the police and calm has been restored.
Chairman Wuntumi has ordered police to arrest a research officer Abdul Nadul Katu of Asawase constituency for unlawfully assaulting and severely wounding one of the supporters of Hon Alidu Seidu.
