Nima Youth Chases Attah Akyea…Demands Apology Within 72 hrs.
Youth of Nima in the Greater Accra Region have threatened to storm the Ministry of Works and Housing to demand an unqualified apology from the Minister if he refuses to do so within 72 hours.
They have also threatened to storm the seat of government, the flagstaff house and the private residence of the president at Nima to demand for the Minister’s immediate removal from office.
Speaking to the leader of Concerned Youth of Nima, Abdulai Mayuka, said the Minister’s comment was uncalled for and need to render an apology to the people of Nima.
According to him, Nima is at the center of the capital where the President of the Republic resides and does not deserve the kind of comment coming from the Minister of State.
Abdulai Mayuka popularly known as Fiston, called on the President to set an example by doling out a stiffer punishment to serve as a deterrent to his appointees.
He urged the President to guide his appointees with the kind of comments they make when they are on public podium or a function.
Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea, on Wednesday said residents in Nima will for the first time in their lives have access to flushing toilet facilities, as part government’s agenda to give a facelift to the slum.
“Mr. Speaker, there’s a slum upgrading which is about happening, that’s the Nima area. We wouldn’t want to pay lip service to the fact that we have some Ghanaians who are living in slums.
“We are going, to begin with, Nima and give Nima a facelift and for the first time we will see the good people of Nima having flushing toilets like anybody will do in East Legon,” said Atta Kyea on the floor of Parliament during a debate on President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address.
Meanwhile, the Ayawaso North lawmaker whose jurisdiction shares boundary with Nima took exception to the Minister’s statement.
