NDC’s Suspicion Of EC Increases …Over minute disparity in collated results from Presidential Primary
Existing suspicion that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has for the Electoral Commission and its Charwoman, Jean Mensah, suffered another trigger over the weekend because of a small disparity in the outcomes of collations that the two did for the NDC’s Presidential primary.
Daily Star has learnt that the 95.23% of votes cast that the EC quoted for former President Mahama’s routing victory in the primary is .1% short of what a collation center that the NDC had deployed at its Adabraka National Headquarters had received from the various constituencies.
The NDC’s collation center had collated 95.24% of the votes for former President Mahama with ultramodern collation machinery that it recently installed for the purpose of collating the 2020 results.
Consequently, there is a growing consensus within NDC that the new EC and its Charwoman, who failed abysmally in the assignments to administer the referenda that created the six additional regions, and the by-election to elect a replacement MP at Ayawaso West Wuogon, cannot be trusted to administer a fair election in 2020.
“We are asking that our National executives thrash out the disparity in the collated results with the EC so that we come to understand how the disparity came about,” Mrs. Irene Mensah, an aspirant for the Anyaa Sowutuom Parliamentary ticket of the NDC told Daily Star at the party Headquarters.
In chorus with the party’s grassroots she explains that a .1% difference in collated figures from the election in 2020, like has happened in the party’s presidential primary, can prove catastrophic for the NDC in an election whose victor must win 50% plus 1 of the cast ballots.
Daily Star has heard that the NDC’s Electoral Committee is unhappy about the disparity which reduces the former President’s votes by .1% and that the party may soon buckle to a growing pressure from the party’s grassroots to thrash out the issue with the EC. It is believed that if the EC is allowed to get away with the disparity and it repeats same in 2020, it could cost the NDC dearly.
The opposition party which lost the 2016 election by a surprise margin of almost 1million votes, amidst a hack into the EC’s electronic data transmission system, is said to have spent a little fortune to set up a razor sharp election collation apparatus.
The system got its first test run during the party’s Presidential primary over the weekend, when it was used to monitor and track results for collation.
According to insiders, the system is so efficient that it completed collating its results several hours ahead of the EC’s collation machinery; so much so that after the NDC’s Electoral Committee had received the final results, members of the Committee had to go and breathe down the neck of the EC to produce its collated results after waiting for a long time.
Eventually, when the results were produced by the EC, it gave former President Mahama 95.23% of the votes, which is .1% of the 95.24% that the NDC’s more efficient collation apparatus had collated for the former President.
