A group within the opposition National Democratic Congress[NDC] calling itself the Kenzullahi for NDC, has  embarked on a cleanup exercise , at Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra.

Briefing newsmen during the occasion of the   exercise, the group’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Ileshahu , popularly called  Alhaji Yaro, said the exercise was in response to concerns raised by members over the filth that has engulfed the area.

The Chairman, who is aspiring for the NDC Ablekuma Central Constituency Treasurer position, disclosed that the group has therefore taken it upon itself to organize weekly based cleanup exercises in the communities to help improve health and sanitation.

He urged the people in the community especially residents to change their attitudes towards sanitation in the Sabon Zongo community, saying ‘’the move will reduce malaria, cholera among other sicknesses’’.

The chairman revealed that the group will continue the clean-up exercise until their aim is achieved by creating awareness on the need to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation.

He therefore called on the Assemblyman of the area to provide waste bins during the clean-up exercise to prevent the garbage from going back to the drainage.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of Kenzullahi for NDC, Mr. Rashid Umar also known as Red revealed that the clean-up exercise was part of the group’s aims in educating the public on sanitation.
