Jean Adukwei Mensah and her colleagues at the Electoral Commission of Ghana must step aside to allow non-partisan Ghanaians to oversee the electoral processes, according to the Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They assert that the Electoral Commission has lost the trust and integrity of the Ghanaian populace, necessitating urgent measures to restore its image.

The NDC supports a petition seeking the removal of top EC officials, emphasizing that both President Akufo Addo and Jean Adukwei Mensah should have been dismissed long ago.

The group criticized the perceived hypocrisy of organizations like OccupyGhana and various civil and moral society groups, claiming their inaction has allowed the EC to diminish its credibility further.

Comrade Richard E. A. Sarpong, the NDC’s Cadres Public Relations Officer, highlighted that the ongoing issues would not have arisen had former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei remained in her position along President John Dramas Mahama.

He criticized the current administration for what he described as a culture of corruption and mismanagement, which has compounded the economic and electoral crises facing the nation.

The NDC points out that an Article 146 Petition for the removal of Jean Adukwei Mensah has been pending with President Akufo Addo since January 21, 2021.

They argue that his failure to act on this petition constitutes a breach of the Constitution and grounds for his own removal from office.

With the upcoming elections, the NDC is poised to use its anticipated two-thirds majority in Parliament to advance the developmental agenda of a potential Mahama administration and hold accountable those involved in the alleged plundering of state resources.

As the political landscape shifts, Ghanaians are resolute in their determination to be active participants in governance, rather than passive observers.
