Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians to recommit themselves to national unity, accountability and shared progress as the country marked the 44th anniversary of the historic 31st December Revolution.

Speaking at a commemorative ceremony held under the theme “Consolidating the Reset Agenda: Reflections on the Gains of the 31st December Revolution,” the Vice President underscored the lasting influence of the revolution on Ghana’s democratic journey and its foundational role in the emergence and philosophy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang paid glowing tribute to the architects of the revolution as well as the many unnamed citizens and soldiers whose sacrifices helped redefine Ghana’s political and social direction. She noted that their collective resolve to put the nation first remains a critical lesson for present and future generations.

On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President conveyed New Year goodwill to Ghanaians, urging them to reflect on the country’s shared values while embracing the responsibilities that come with nationhood. She commended the parade contingents, particularly the children, describing their participation as a powerful symbol of continuity and national consciousness.

She stressed that Ghana’s stability and development depend largely on how citizens relate to one another, uphold responsibility and remain committed to building an inclusive society that benefits all.

According to her, the ideals that inspired the 31st December Revolution – justice, compassion and collective responsibility – are as relevant today as they were decades ago, especially as the country pursues a renewed national “reset” agenda.

As Ghana steps into a new year, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged citizens to move forward together with a shared sense of purpose, strong principles and a firm commitment to leaving the nation stronger for generations yet unborn.
