Chairman elect for the Abetifi Constituency for the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Hon. Samuel Asamoah, has stated that his victory in the just ended constituency primaries represents the protection for the truth, hard work and determination for the party’s fortunes in the run up to the 2020 elections.

He also stated that his reflection on President Rawlings’ advice to some party executives in 2005 to come back and serve the party at the Koforidua congress, that made comrades such as Dr Kwabena Adjei, Hon. Asiedu Nketia, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe all brought their experience to help the party come back to power within three years in 2008, inspired him to come back after his service as former DCE of Abetifi to take up the party leadership, and work hard with experience to bring the NDC’s glory back in 2020.

Elaborating the basis for his election, Hon. Asamoah, indicated that the grassroots of the party recognizes his hard earned effort from his days when he served as assembly member of Kwahu Tafo Atia Amanfro electoral area in 1989, where his hard work brought a lot of development to the people of the constituency, a performance according to him that made the NDC gain great honor and support from the people of Abetifi but was quick to add that same cannot be said of the party today.

The former DCE mentioned that his performance as former youth organizer, parliamentary candidate and DCE, gave the NDC much grounds and strength in the constituency because of his dynamic leadership skills which gave the party over 12,000 votes in 2012 which was actually the highest performance ever for the party in the constituency.

Hon. Samuel Asamoah however mentioned that, the NDC has lost all the  hard earned position and gains that it held after his tenure in party  leadership, particularly the drastic reduction in the party’s votes, hence his decision to return and help lift the image and fortunes of the party in Abetifi.

Explaining what their current challenge could be, the former DCE confessed that Abetifi remains one of the traditional strong holds of the NPP with an extremely resourceful parliamentary candidate who makes the situation challenging but said he is hopeful that with unity and determination, they will succeed.

He has however called on all Akatamansonians in the constituency to join forces and rally behind him and the newly elected leadership to work and restore the NDC’s fortunes again in Abetifi.
