Ibrahim Razak, the wanted man

According to one Abubakar Yahaya, his brother by name Ibrahim Razak has been declared a wanted person by a vigilante group.

He said that his brother was caught red handed having a same sex intercourse with a male partner in his room.

Mr. Abubakar Yahaya made the revelation during a town hall meeting to discuss ways of minimizing the abuse of power by watchdog groups at Amasaman, in the Ga West Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.

Until that ill-fated incident when he was caught by our younger sister, no one knows of Ibrahim’s gay activities.

Our younger sister went into Ibrahim’s room to pick something as she usually does when she bumped on the two male partners enjoying themselves.

She couldn’t believe what she saw so she shouted at the top of her voice which attracted large crowd into the compound. Ibrahim’s partner known as Kwame upon sensing danger took to his heels but luck eluded my brother who was caught and beaten mercilessly by the angry mob.

But for my timely intervention, Ibrahim would have been lynched by the mob. It was me who managed to rescue him to safety from the angry mob.

Ibrahim sustained some degrees of injuries and bruises and I had no option than to take him to the hospital where he was admitted, treated and discharged after two days.

Because his life was under threat in our community, I couldn’t returned him there but arranged with a friend of mine in another community where he stayed for some time.

The incident which was reported to the Safety Empire Group, a vigilante movement known for its anti-gay stance and dangerous clamps on homosexuals and supporters, made Ibrahim’s matter worse and complicated.

The group declared Ibrahim wanted and vowed to fish him out from his hideout to torture him severely for what they termed “bringing disgrace to his family, community and Islam, our religion.

What makes matters worse was our father who is a respected Islamic cleric was in support of punishing Ibrahim for engaging in gay practice and disgracing him and the entire family.

Our father has promised to link the vigilante group of Ibrahim’s whereabouts whenever he has the information.

Because gay practice is illegal in Ghana, we couldn’t lodge a complaint with the police as the police would in turn arrest even the complainant for involving or supporting homosexuality.

“The Safety Empire which has carried out severe punishments and tortures on known and suspected gay practitioners and supporters in the communities, most often  has the backing of community leaders, politicians and the security agencies” Mr. Yahaya, also known as Ibrahim stated.
