Muslims’ Urged to Rise Against Homosexuality in Ghana
Muslims have been asked to officially state their position on the ongoing debate to criminalize homosexuality in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Ghanaiandemocrat.com after the 2018 Ramadan Lectures organized by Jahidu Fiisabilillah Foundation at Budumbura Liberia camp in the central Region, Sheikh Mohammed Awal reiterated the call for Muslims to rise up against the sinful act.
According to him, Islamic religion has already frowned on the act but Muslims across the country must send the signal that no amount of pressure from anywhere will be tolerated.
He described the act as dirtiest and must be met with stiff opposition adding that “Ghanaians must unite against such evil exercise”.
“I am deeply worried that uptill today our Muslim leaders have not come out officially to condemn and state their position about the homosexuality, even though we all know Islam is not in support of it but issuing statement against it would have send signals that no one is ready for any satanic moves”.
The US based Ghanaian born scholar advised his colleague preachers to adopt contemporary ways of preaching to suit the current generational trends.
He said most at times the youth called on him to complain about the old style of preaching that makes teaching and listening boring and without any impact to the youth.
Sheikh Mohammed Awal suggested that it is high time workshops are organized purposely for upgrading of sheikhs and preachers on ways to preach.
Jahidu Fiisabilillah is a nongovernmental organization started as a whatsapp group chat . The foundation over the years has donated and supported the less privileged in society and people with disabilities.
