Let’s Respect Our Chiefs’ … Speaker of Parliament To Gas
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Okwei Snr, has advice the people of Ga State to respect their Chiefs and forge ahead with unity to ensure development within Ga State.
According to him the time has come for Gas to give maximum respect to their Chiefs no matter the disagreement and dispute surrounding ones legitimacy as a Chief.
The Speaker of Parliament gave the advice during the 10th installation Anniversary Celebration of the Paramount Chief of Osu, who doubles as the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, His. Majesty DF. Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI.
He advised the people not to disrespect their chiefs as well as traditions and cultural values and added that it is shameful to respect the traditions and cultures of others to the neglect of your own.
He revealed that the people of Osu have in the past played a major role in development of the country by producing accountants, doctors, lawyers, engineers among others, but bemoaned that the situation is different now due to lack of education.
This he called on the Osu Mantse to make education one of his top most priorities and urged parents to take their children education seriously to ensure that the issue of illiteracy in the Osu traditional area becomes a thing of the past.
He further called on the Osu educational committee to set up computer laboratory to help the children to gain much knowledge in Information and Communication Technology [ITC].
This he added ‘’ it will make learning attractive and will as well compel the children to always go close to their books’’. The Speaker of Parliament pledged to support and promote any form of education in the Osu traditional area.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Glico Group, Dr. Kwame Achampong-Kye, commended the Osu Mantse for the unity and initiatives he has brought to the people of Osu traditional area which include the ‘Osu Mantse Development Initiative to support the government’s socio-economic improvement in the Osu State.
“Your commitment to the improvement of health, education, agriculture and real estate development in the Osu State under the OMANCODI project, shows a truism to your pledge to Osu State embodied in the African proverb; if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together” he noted.
He said the Osu Mantse has elevated the Osu stool to paramount status and has also been elected as the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs which affirms the ‘voice of wisdom’ of traditional rulers to government’s agenda for the people of Ghana.
