The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Mr Kweku Baako Jnr. has dared the Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong to sue Anas if he believes the ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is corrupt. Mr Agyapong has repeatedly threatened to expose and unmask Anas after accusing him of acquiring properties through blackmailing, evading taxes, nonpayment of SSNIT contribution and indulging in land litigation.

But speaking on Accra based Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme Wednesday morning, Mr Kweku Baako said if Mr Agyapong had any suspicion against Anas, he should report the case to the police for the law to take its course, or better still sue him.

“Under the constitution of this country, Anas is a citizen of the land, even a foreign resident here has the right to acquire properties. Now if a citizen has acquired a property and you feel that acquisition was (by) proceeds of criminal activities, where do we go?

“Because acquisition of property is allowed under the constitution by any citizen of the land, but if you are worried about it then it means you may have some reason that, that person has acquired the property illegally or unlawfully. Or the property may be a product of proceeds of criminal activity, maybe drugs, maybe money laundering, something.

According to Mr Baako, the MP was fighting desperately, adding that, the purpose of Anas’ present investigative job was to bring out the corruption in Ghana Football.

He was therefore of the view that Mr Agyapong’s claim that Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi was set up was false.

According to him, the GFA boss was not set up since he (Nyantakyi) introduced the political angle, “by influence peddling that I have contacts, I have prominent people and if you give me money I can give some to them and we will take over the country. It is not mere allegation you make, Kwame, (Host of Kokroko show), it is not mere noise you make on radio or TV”.

He emphasised that all the allegations leveled against Anas were untrue and that although Anas has properties, he legally acquired them.

He stressed that Anas is not “corrupt, evil and wicked” as purported by Mr Agyapong, adding that Anas is not fraudulent and does not engage in any fraudulent act in the country.

Mr Baako also brought documents as evidence of Anas paying all his taxes to counter an allegation to the contrary by Kennedy Agyapong.

He further stated that the utterances and accusations by Mr Agyapong against Anas do not represent or “depict NPP” thoughts.

“I sincerely believe at this stage that Kennedy Agyapong is not speaking for his party, the NPP. This is him talking and not the party’s view.”
