Former deputy Attorney General Dominic Ayine says he is prepared for a face off with Martin Amidu in court if the opportunity avails itself.

In his view, even though the Special Prosecutor nominee has an impeccable reputation, he would still have to prove the superiority of his cases in court in order to achieve results.

“The criminal standard is, prove beyond reasonable doubt, I think that even if you appoint God as the prosecutor, God must be able to marshal evidence that meets the standard, so I am not bothered that Martin has been appointed. He is hardworking and he will do a great job. But if the evidence doesn’t measure up to the standard, an impartial adjudicator will dismiss the case, so that should not send shivers down the spine of anybody either NDC or NPP.

“In the last election Martin was fighting in the corner of the NPP, he denounced NDC officials as corrupt so that is where maybe the partisanship will come in, but for me it doesn’t matter if he is partisan or nonpartisan. I have never feared any lawyer in my practice, if I have to meet Martin Amidu as defense counsel for anybody, I will gladly do it, I’m prepared; I’m ready,” he told Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan.

President Akufo-Addo on Thursday nominated the former Attorney General for Parliament’s approval when it resumes.

Earlier this month, the President signed into law the bill establishing the office of the Special Prosecutor after it was approved in parliament last year.

The establishment of the office, according to the government will inject discipline into the public sector.
