The Police Management Board headed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, has visited selected churches in the Greater Accra region on sunday 24 November to send goodwill messages of peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.

Among some of the churches the IGP and his police management team visited were the police church in Accra, Church of Pentecost at Accra New Town, the Osu Presby church also at Osu among others.

The IGP said it was clear that churches had a significant amount of work ahead of them and therefore urged all members to prioritize their work and ensure that we make progress in peace education towards election 2024.

He acknowledged the sunday visitation and urged Christians to remain diligent and discipline in the face of potential temptations.

“We have come to say thank you to all of you in connection with these upcoming elections. The way we have allowed ourselves to be used as a vessel by the good Lord in conducting ourselves in a manner that has led to a situation where so far, with all the election processes, we have not heard anything bad.
Nothing has happened beyond us such that the peace we are experiencing during this election period has never happened before. It is because of the good Lord and his mighty hand upon our country and allowing ourselves as a vessel for his use”, he stated.

When is the general election?
On Saturday 7 December, the nearly 18.8 million Ghanaians registered to vote will be able to take part in the country’s ninth general election since multiparty politics was reintroduced in the early 1992.

In the last 30 years, the country has had a series of closely fought but peaceful polls. Ghana has a reputation for the orderly transfer of power between administrations.

What are Ghanaians voting for?

On polling day, two elections will be taking place simultaneously:

Presidential – there are 12 candidates
Parliamentary – voters in 275 constituencies across the country will be choosing their MP.

Presidential Candidates from Both Parties

The NPP has chosen vice-president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for this year’s election.

The party has also since announced Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.

On the side of the opposition, former president John Dramani Mahama emerged as the presidential candidate of the NDC.

He then retained Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

This was after a National Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday, March 4, 2024, in Accra. Both running mates are former Education Ministers and will be bringing to bear their expertise to support their respective party tickets. Do these running mates have any influence on their presidential candidates?
