I FEAR FOR MY HUSBAND’S LIFE
According to one lady believed to be in her mid-thirties, she no longer feels comfortable and that she is afraid her husband might be attacked anytime he returns to Ghana.
The young lady ,[ name withheld ]for security reasons, whose husband ,decided not to return to Ghana , to escape been captured and tortured by a mob [vigilante group] at Takoradi , in the Western Region was of the view that Ghana is no more safer and secure for the husband .
Speaking exclusively to this reporter from an unknown location in a telephone interview, the traumatized lady indicated that the circumstances that led to her husband’s current situation are still haunting and putting fear in her.
The mother of four expressed the worry that the mob that were after her husband, might be waiting for him to return to Ghana anytime for them to take drastic action against him.
The lady , who has since the ill-fated incident also left her Takoradi home with her children, maintained that her husband is a non-violent and peace loving person who always fights and advocates for the rights of people regardless of their political and religious affiliations.
She was surprised at the attack carried out against her husband by members of his own community just because he pleaded and advocated for an end to mob and instance justice against gay practitioners in the community.
‘’ My husband is not a gay but a man of peace and that he doesn’t deserve the treatment metered to him by the mob’’ she said.
The attack on that faithful day of Monday, May 9th 2016, still lingers in my head and continue to traumatize and put more fear in me.
‘’When the mob came to the house and forced themselves into my room, fortunately my husband was not around and was then even out of the country for studies abroad ’’.
On what led to the attack on her husband, she said ‘’ his sins were that he tried to plead on behalf of a suspected gay who has been caught by the mob and was been taken to a place to be tortured’’.
Because the suspect escaped from them, they blamed my husband for causing the suspect’s escape and they therefore directed their anger on him days later, she explained.
She was however tight lipped on the exact location of her husband, but was quick to add that he is safe and not in the country presently, contrary to rumors among the cross section of the mob that he might be hiding in another part of Ghana.
She also failed to respond to a question on whether her husband who was an employee of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees [UNHCR], Ghana office, will return to Ghana anytime soon.
