Ghana Slams Israel Over ‘Inhumane’ Treatment of Travellers at Ben Gurion AirPort

The Government of Ghana has issued a strong worded protest against what it describes as the inhumane and unjustifiable treatment of Ghanaian nationals by Israeli authorities at Ben Gurion International Airport.
In a press release dated 10th December 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the deliberate targeting and traumatic handling of Ghanaian travellers entering Israel since 7th December 2025.
According to the statement, seven Ghanaian travellers, including four Members of Parliament attending the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference in Tel Aviv, were detained for hours without cause. Their release came only after more than five hours of intense diplomatic intervention.
The remaining three travellers were deported on the earliest flight and have since returned to Ghana.
The government condemned the actions of Israeli authorities as provocative, unacceptable and inconsistent with the longstanding friendly relations between the two nations. Ghana emphasized that citizens of both countries have for decades enjoyed smooth, unhindered travel – making the latest incident even more troubling.
Israel’s explanation that the detentions resulted from alleged non-cooperation by Ghana’s Embassy was dismissed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry as “totally untenable,” insisting that Ghana’s mission in Tel Aviv has always complied with international protocols.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra would be summoned to register Ghana’s displeasure “in the strongest possible terms.”
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana says it is considering appropriate reciprocal actions in response to the incident.
