Ghana Mourns: President Mahama Pays Tribute to Victims of Chopper Crash

Accra, August 7, 2025 – President John Dramani Mahama has led the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight prominent Ghanaians who perished in a military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom, describing the incident as a “moment of shared heartbreak” and a “deep personal loss.”
In a solemn national broadcast Wednesday night, the President confirmed the deaths of key public officials and military officers who were onboard the ill-fated flight. The deceased include:
Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO
Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Ghana Air Force
Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force
Sergeant Ernest Addo, Ghana Air Force
“These eight individuals dedicated their lives to Ghana’s progress,” the President stated emotionally. “That their final moments were spent in service is a testament to their unwavering commitment.”
President Mahama assured the public of a full and transparent investigation into the cause of the crash. An Investigative Board of Inquiry has been established, with flight data and cockpit voice recorders already recovered.
As the nation grapples with the shock, government has announced a series of memorial activities:
Saturday, August 9: National Evening of Reflections and Memorial at the State House, 5:00 PM
Sunday, August 10 – Thursday, August 14: Books of Condolence open at various ministries, security agencies and party headquarters
Friday, August 15: Inter-denominational State Funeral at Black Star Square
President Mahama called for national unity and compassion during this period of collective grief. “Let our words be of comfort, our actions be of kindness and our unity be the tribute we offer to those whose lives have been lost.”
As tributes pour in from across the political divide, citizens and dignitaries alike are expected to attend the memorial and funeral services in honour of the eight gallant souls who died in the line of duty.
