Accra, August 21, 2025 – Ghana and Japan have taken a bold step to deepen economic cooperation as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9).

The pact seeks to unlock business opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations by fostering partnerships between Ghanaian and Japanese enterprises.

Under the agreement, both institutions will designate liaison officers to facilitate communication, support companies, and co-develop sector-specific reports highlighting key investment prospects. These reports will be published on the organisations’ websites to attract interest from businesses in both countries.

The partnership also makes room for annual or bi-annual consultation meetings, seminars, trade missions and exchange programmes – all designed to review progress, share market intelligence and align on strategic priorities.

GIPC will focus on connecting Japanese firms with local businesses and offering up-to-date market insights, while JETRO will assist Ghanaian companies to penetrate the Japanese market and link them with potential collaborators.

Speaking at the signing, GIPC CEO Mr. Simon Madjie hailed the agreement as proof of Ghana’s growing commitment to global investment integration. “We are excited about the prospects this MoU opens up for Ghanaian businesses to engage with Japan’s dynamic economy,” he said.

On his part, JETRO Ghana Director General Mr. Tsubasa Nakagawa reaffirmed Japan’s interest in expanding its footprint in Africa. “Ghana presents a vibrant and promising market. Through this MoU, we aim to build bridges that lead to sustainable growth and innovation,” he stated.

The deal is expected to inject fresh momentum into Ghana-Japan relations while paving the way for stronger trade, investment and innovation opportunities.
