The contest for parliamentary candidate in Asante Mampong National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a struggle between Mr. Mohammed Kwadwo Aboasu, former Municipal Chief Executive, under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Frank Amoakohene, a former President of the National Union of Ghana Students and Ms. Binta Mohammed, a female politician and business woman.

Frank’s decision to contest sparked a lot of interest in this particular elections especially on the students front across the country.

Contesting against a former MCE was a very difficult hurdle for the former student leader to cross. Elections was generally peaceful with the police doing a very good job to dismantle any disagreements that arose.

Polls  ended at 5pm followed by sorting and counting. The closeness of the contest made it difficult to predict who was going to win the elections even after counting ballots of two aspirants already.

At the end of the elections, Frank Amoakohene won with 315 of the total votes cast, Hon. Mohammed Kojo Aboasu came second with 294 votes and Fatimah Binta Mohammed also had 251 votes.

Frank Amoakohene holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences and is a final year Medical student(MBChB) at the university of Ghana Legon. He is a veteran student politician who has led students at all levels of students leadership.

He first served as President of University of Ghana Allied Health Science Students Association, President of the National Health Students Association of Ghana and ultimately President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

Frank Amoakohene emphasized on the need for unity ahead of the 2020 general elections and congratulated his opponents for the strong contest.
