EC, Police Election Rigging Tactics, Okai Koi North NDC Warns of Possible Unrest
The Okai koi North branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned Ghana Police and Electoral Commission to backdown with their intended plans of asking voter to go home after voting.
NDC in its response to the EC and Ghana Police in a letter dated 2nd May, 2024 reaffirmed its stance and urged all members and voters to remain at registration centers and ensure proper things are done.
The NDC therefore stated that it would not comply with the directive and called on all Ghanaians to remain vigilant.
Below is the letter responding to the EC and Ghana Police:
NOTICE OF NON-COMPLIANCE WITH YOUR DIRECTIVES
As reiterated during our meeting yesterday, I write to formally notify you and reaffirm my stance, which coincides with the position of my political party, the National Democratic Congress in Okaikoi North constituency, regarding the directive prohibiting Ghanaians from sleeping at or near the registration center in our Municipality.
It is imperative to clarify that we, as a political entity, vehemently oppose and will not collaborate in enforcing this unusual directive. Every potential registrant who visits the center but is unable to register has the prerogative to either return home and revisit the next day or seek nearby accommodation until the next registration day, as do guarantors.
I emphatically restate that Ghanaians possess the intellect to independently decide whether to stay overnight or return the following day for registration. There are widespread speculations that this “no-sleep” directive aims to facilitate the transportation of individuals from Akropong and other areas of the Akwapim North constituency into Okaikoi North. Rest assured, we will employ all legitimate means to counteract this. I urge your office to counsel any parties contemplating such illicit activities to desist.
The NDC party in Okaikoi North constituency assures you of our full cooperation with directives aimed at ensuring a transparent and equitable registration process. However, we unequivocally disassociate ourselves from anything beyond this.
Yours faithfully,
Gregory Quarshie
Constituency Chairman
