Don’t employ graduate who evade National Service- NSS to Employers
The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has cautioned employers not to offer employment to graduates who have not undergone their mandatory national service to the country.
The secretariat said it’s an affront to the law of the country and warned to sanction organizations found capable.
“Employers should not employ any graduate who has not undergone national service; it’s affront to the law, it’s against the law and then if you are an employer and you recruit or employ somebody who have not undergone national service, then you’re fronting the law and the law will deal with you,” the Director of Public Affairs of the NSS, Mr. David Prah told the TelegraphGhana.com in an interview.
He stated that the Ghana Employers Association has been advised not to recruit or employ fresh graduates and persons who have not undergone their national service.
“Management of NSS have informed the Ghana Employers Association not to recruit or employ fresh graduates and persons who have not undergone national service so as to serve as deterrent to others,” Mr. Prah said.
He advised potential service personnel to be wary of people who will ask them to pay monies for service placement.
Mr. Prah also mentioned that the NSS has digitized its certificate system to enable personnel who have successfully completed their service apply for their certificates online, to be delivered to them at their various locations.
He said the scheme, in collaboration with Delivery Hub Limited (DHL), will deliver certificates to personnel who opt for their service.
According to him, the online certificate delivery system will help the scheme address challenges such as low collection rates of NSS certificates, lack of proper inventory systems to file certificates and the difficulty locating certificates and keeping data of certificates available or collected.
Mr. Prah said the initiative will reduce the time spent by personnel travelling from their destinations to pick up certificates at the various regional offices of the scheme.
He also hinted that personnel can also request online or self-pickup on appointed date.
“The system enables applicants to upload any of the acceptable national identification cards (voter id, driving license, passport and SSNIT) online before a request can be approved. It will also reduce the issuance of certificate from hours to few minutes and save the stress that comes with the manual process” Mr. Prah said.
The Director of Public Affairs encouraged personnel to take advantage of the online certificate delivery system to ease the stress they encounter when travelling to their place of posting for their certificate.
