COYEES Calls for the Heads of EOCO, SEC bosses
The Congress of Youth Economic Empowerment Seekers (COYEES), is
demanding the dismissal of the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized
Crimes Office (EOCO) and the Director General of Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) over their poor handling of the Menzgold saga.
The group wants President Akufo-Addo to sack K.K. Amoah and Daniel Ogbamey
Tetteh for their “negligence and abdication” of duty in relation to the
collapse of the gold dealership company, which has left many clients in debt.
Addressing the press and some aggrieved Menzgold clients at Tarkwa in the
Western Region, convener of the COYEES, Emmanuel Wilson Jnr blamed the Menzgold
crisis on institutional and systemic failures.
COYEES accused the Director General of SEC, Mr. Daniel Ogbamey Tetteh “for his
decision to hastily collapse the Menzgold Scheme without considering to protect
the interest of customers, leading to causing financial losses to thousands of
innocent Ghanaian citizens”.
The removal of the EOCO and SEC bosses the group strongly believes, “will help guarantee in the Ghanaian public who are the tax payers, that Government honestly cares about its citizens and will execute its mandate of protecting them at all times against criminal and negligent state officials.”
The group is also calling for the “immediate arrest of all other owners, directors and collaborators of Menzgold so to face prosecution” and “an immediate investigation and identification of all accounts, assets and other properties of the other individual owners of Menzgold including collaborators to be frozen, whiles legal steps will be followed in retrieving the monies and subsequently repaying of all innocent customers”.
