Asiedu Nketiah Calls for Stronger Grassroots Engagement
Mafi Kumase, Central Tongu — The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has reiterated the importance of grassroots participation in governance during his visit to the Central Tongu Constituency as part of his Volta Regional Thank You Tour.
Addressing party executives, traditional leaders, and residents at Mafi Kumase, Hon. Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that direct engagement with the people is essential to effective leadership and responsive governance.
“Grassroots visits like I am doing, I believe, form the cornerstone of good governance,” he stated.
The Constituency Chairman, Mr. Marcathy Ametefe, expressed gratitude to Hon. Asiedu Nketiah for his continued support, describing him as the “godfather” of the constituency. He reaffirmed the unwavering support of the constituency for the NDC and appealed for more job opportunities and political appointments for party members.
Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottorwodze, also lauded Hon. Asiedu Nketiah for his guidance and assistance during the 2024 campaign period. He took the opportunity to appeal for the upgrade of the Mafi Kumase Health Centre to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Traditional leaders present at the event called on government to initiate key development projects, including the construction of a modern market to boost local trade.
While Hon. Asiedu Nketiah’s direct response to the market request was not specified, he assured the gathering that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership. He cited the direct disbursement of common funds to district assemblies as a sign of the NDC government’s commitment to decentralization and community-led development.
The Central Tongu engagement formed part of Hon. Asiedu Nketiah’s broader Volta Regional Thank You Tour, aimed at deepening party unity and reaffirming government’s dedication to grassroots development across the region.
