Contrary to media reports that the Bui dam has been shut down, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority Mr. Fred Oware has said the power facility has never shutdown and is still in operation.

“We have been in operations and have been contributing to the provision of energy in the country” said Mr. Fred Oware.

He said due to the rainfall the country is experiencing, the power facility has enough reservoir to run its operations for the time being.

Speaking at the two day media workshop in Accra, Mr. Fred Oware revealed that the power Authority has never had a breakdown in the last five years contrary to the media speculations that the power facility is faced with numerous challenges in its operations.

The workshop was to abreast journalists on the operations of the Authority and to open its doors for fruitful collaborations between the two.

He said engineers are monitoring water levels in the dam to enable safe and feasible power generation capacity.

Earlier reports in the media indicated that Bui Power Authority on Tuesday stopped generating power totally following a previous announcement it has been compelled to reduce capacity due to low water levels.

The dwindling water levels have compelled the dam to produce only 1.44 million kilowatt-hours per day, as against a previous capacity of 90 mega watts daily.

But the CEO refuted the claim and added that “ the rains has favored us with a good enough water in the reservoir and continue with its project by embarking solar and wind power generation within the shortest possible time.
