‘Bloody Widow’ Tag Appropriate – NDC Communicator

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication officer for Ablekuma Central Constituency in Accra, Madam Vivian Sallah has stated that the ‘bloody widow’ tag on Lydia Alhassan, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon is appropriate.

In an interview with the Ghanaian democrat.com she explained that widows who mourning would not have abandoned their widowhood to do campaigning even when the husband was not buried.

“If you check on the obituary of the late Kyeremateng Agyako, nowhere has Lydia name mentioned and this should tell you that she is only impersonating the real wife”.

The Member of Parliament for the Tano North Constituency, Freda Akosua Prempeh has called on the Minority Caucus in parliament to apologise to the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, for walking out during her swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, 5 January 2019 and also describing her as a “bloody widow”.

The Minority has come under intense public criticism after they showed placards with the inscription as they walked out during her swearing in by the first deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The lawmaker in an interview with Chairman General On Peace FM, Kokrokoo Morning Show said, the behaviour of the Minority Caucus is “cold-hearted” and “heartless”, considering the fact that the new lawmaker is a widow.

“Where is their humanity? For political reasons, the NDC MPs chose to throw away one of our societal norms of according a widow, respect and went ahead to describe her in such an unpalatable manner. This is the height of insensitivity on the part of the Minority! This is heartless, to say the least.” – she quizzed.

According to her, comparing what happened in Shai Osudoku where the Member of Parliament when Mr. Desmond William Ocloo died in an accident and his widow won the by-election.

She explained further that Mrs. Linda Akwele Ocloo was a real widow to the late William Ocloo where as Lydia Alhassan was not legally married to Mr. William Kyeremateng Agyako.

She advised Members of NPP in parliament to give a wise counsel to their colleague Lydia Alhassan to drop to title ‘widow’ since she is not.
