The Black Stars of Ghana are set for an exciting clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles as part of the Unity Cup 2025 in London. This highly anticipated match, often referred to as the “Jollof Battle,” will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as confirmed by the Ghana Football Association and event organizers.

In this opening match, the winner will advance to the final, where they will compete against the victor of the match between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. All four nations have significant diasporas in the UK, making this tournament particularly special. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the 2021 census revealed that 271,000 individuals in the UK identified as Nigerian, while 113,000 identified as Ghanaian. Additionally, the Jamaica High Commission noted in 2007 that approximately 800,000 people in the UK were born in Jamaica or of Jamaican descent. The ONS reported in 2013 that around 25,000 Trinidadians reside in the UK.

Andy Howes, co-director of competition organizer AfroSport, remarked, “The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase ‘an event that goes beyond sport.
